Winter Location
We shoot at Fort Regent in the Winter. Membership fees cover some of this cost, however there is a small donation every time you shoot there. Shooting days are Sundays 10:00 to 13:00 and Wednesdays 19:00-21:00. Mondays are set aside for beginners and run between 18:30 and 20:30 but all sessions are open to club members.
Summer Location
We shoot at Radier Manor in the summer months.
The Beginning…
The club was founded by Ack Hairon and was originally called D’Hautree Archery Club, as the members of the club used to shoot at the school in Jersey called D’Hautree School.
When Ack died the Club still kept the old name until the early 1990′s when the shooting location was changed to Crabbé and the name was then changed to the Archers of Jersey.
Recently…
The Archers of Jersey club has gone from strength to strength after only having 3 members for quite a few years.
In the winter of 2006 the club changed the shooting locations to the RJAH&S at Trinity, and started to promote itself. The club continued to grow its members and then moved to the Twin Oaks field (Radier Manor) at Grouville, and are now a club of over 60 members!
With many new faces joining the club and a great atmosphere, the Archers of Jersey has really taken off.
See Have-a-Go Days & Private Events
We are keen to train beginners (children and adults) and are now available to run private sessions for a party or business ‘away day’.
Interesting Fact
According to a popular legend, the two-fingered salute or V sign derives from the gestures of longbow men fighting in the English army at the Battle of Agincourt (1415) during the Hundred Years’ War.According to the story, the French claimed that they would cut off the arrow-shooting fingers of all the English and Welsh longbow men after they had won the battle at Agincourt, but the English came out victorious and showed off their two fingers, still intact.Categories: Archery, Clubs & Associations.
