Christine Witham is a Jersey artist with a growing UK profile. She works with silk, lace, felt, spangles and beads to create distinctive and very wearable textile jewellery.
The work is characterised by its decorative quality and skilled craftsmanship.
An experienced artist, Christine originally studied embroidery at Goldsmiths College and that early training is apparent in the quality of her jewellery. Each piece is crafted entirely by hand using Christine’s own techniques, in a process that can take many hours to produce a truly unique statement necklace.
Christine exhibits regularly in the UK and her work has featured in a number of publications both nationally, in Europe and America. Locally she is probably best known as the artist who created the stunning jackets worn by David Gainsborough Roberts, a well known film buff and patron of the Arts.
A selection of Christine’s work can always be seen at the Harbour Gallery, St Aubin. The Harbour Gallery also has details of Christine’s on island workshops for adults and children.
