Born in Manchester, I graduated from the University of Surrey with a BSc (Hons) Metallurgy and French. My past career involved working as a school teacher and a homeless support worker. I was a former president of the Jersey branch of the National Union of Teachers. It is perhaps this background that has led to my reputation for research that has earned me the respect of both colleagues and opponents alike.
Widely believed to be in contention for the accolade of having asked more questions, and brought more propositions than any other present Member.
I am married to Ann, we have two children and live in St. Helier.
Ann Southern is also a member of the Reform Party.
Outside of my political work reading and music plays a big part in my attempts at relaxing. I am a particular fan of the American singer-songwriter Tom Waites. who is very much an acquired taste, but his words have a way of drawing you in, body and soul, to the story he is weaving.
What I Stand For
I am committed to making Jersey, and St Helier in particular, a fairer place where the quality of life of every individual and family is valued. After almost 14 years as your representative in the States, I know how to deliver. Above all, I never give up.
First elected to the States as Deputy of St. Helier No.2 district on 15th February 2002 and re-elected in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011 and again in the 2014 election, I thank those who voted for me.
A candidate for Reform Jersey whose members feel that by working together as a party, we can achieve more to make Jersey a fair society, with government policies based on social and economic justice.
