Why was the Seabird Working Group established?
The Seabird Working Group was established in March 2009, following discussions regarding the declining population of puffins on the north coast. The group provides a forum for discussion and policy development on issues related to seabirds and the habitats they need for survival.
How does the group operate?
The group generally meets twice a year to discuss ongoing issues, such as:
collecting and collating seabird monitoring data
devising seabird monitoring programmes
establishing voluntary exclusion zones in coastal locations during breeding seasons
creating proactive media and public awareness
wildlife crime and its policing
assessment of predators
impacts of commercial boat operators
