About the Kartoon Faktory
The Kartoon Faktory is a new art based venture designed to bring some humour and a smidgen of satire to Jersey life. We produce a wide range of cartoons and sell them as prints, greeting cards and other merchandise. All of our artwork is meticulously hand drawn using fine line pens and watercolours
We have been producing work since August 2012, and have recently exhibited our collection of work at the ‘large art space’ in Liberty Wharf, and subsequently at Exquisite, also in Liberty Wharf. We are currently exhibiting our work in the ‘Bar Gallery’ at Cafe JAC for a month, and will also be exhibiting at Berni Gallery
Who’s behind the kartoons?
Cameron McPhail
Cameron has various business interests, including several non-executive chairmanships. Curiously for someone with an interest in cartoons, Dr. McPhail spent some 30 years in the financial services industry based primarily in the UK, USA and Jersey. Cameron spent most of his career with The Royal Bank of Scotland (1988-2002) and ultimately he became the Chief Executive of the Bank’s Wealth Management Division. The Division had funds under management of over 100bn, some 7000 employees in sixteen countries
Ben Robertson
Ben is a local illustrator/graphic designer/artist who has been working in the design industry since he left the University of Wolverhampton in 2009, with a BA(Hons) in Animation. He then went on to work on freelance projects for local businesses, the Jersey Evening Post, Gallery Magazine and JerseyLive. He also produced work for many small local businesses. He won the Gallery Student Art Exhibition in 2009 and was also nominated for the ‘Islanders Film Award’ at the ‘Jersey Branchage Film Festival’ in 2009. Ben is now illustrating and marketing for the Kartoon Faktory, whilst also taking on freelance work
Oli Nightingale
After completing his Animation degree in 2009 Oli found himself doing part-time freelance Illustration, while working at Jersey Plants Direct. At work he met Cameron, one of the company founders, where they co-operated on the production of the now well known ‘Beginners Guide’ maps of Jersey and Scotland. From there Oli has become an in-house illustrator at Kartoon Faktory, and was runner-up in 2012‘s ‘Britain’s Young Cartoonist of the Year’ competition. Oli now works full time as an illustrator at the Kartoon Faktory
