I am both a painter and sculptor that likes to mix different media and textures into my work. My love of colour shows through the pieces I produce, whether painted in oil, acrylic or gouache.
The inspiration behind my work comes from a fascination with the past and my love of all things vintage. Hence, pieces may have a strong influence of a 19th century botanical drawing, or a 16th century Indian textile, and then given a contemporary or quirky twist. I am also strongly influenced by the nature that surrounds me whether here in Jersey, or on my travels.
I love using natural materials, and I work in pewter metal, casting and sculpting small evocative figures or shells. I compliment them by setting them on found driftwood or weathered stones to produce unique, individual pieces.
In 2010 I exhibited at the Jersey Maritime Museum. This was a collection inspired by the women of the Oyster Industry in Gorey in the 1800's. I attempted to bring these forgotten women to life with works in different media, incorporating oil paint, glass, copper foil and crushed oyster shells to commemorate them. I was commissioned in 2011 by the Maritime Museum to do the family tree for the TB Davis Exhibition, a large scale piece in hand-embossed pewter sheet, that is currently on display. I have also exhibited at the Harbour Gallery, and been shortlisted for the JJ Fox Open Art Exhibition in 2011. I recently participated in the Skipton Open Studios, and my work has been in Gallery Magazine, and in the Magazine for the National Trust for Jersey. My work is in many private collections, and available to purchase from Pour Moi in Rozel Harbour, and by appointment from my Studio.Categories: Artist, Sculptor.
