Mary Walledge Highland Dancers
Mary Walledge, First Tower School of Dancing
About
Mary Walledge is the former principal of the First Tower School of Dancing and although now retired, continues to train Highland Dancers at the school. Highland dancing dates back to the 12th century, when it was used as a form of victory dance after battle. Highland chiefs would test the stamina and agility of their clansmen from their dancing ability. Nowadays, of course, they are usually performed for competitive or display purposes at the many Highland Games throughout the world, which is true of the Mary Walledge Highland Dancers who compete around the UK and have performed at many of our Scottish Society events.Categories: Culture, Dancing Academies.
