Toby Huelin is an award-winning composer of music for theatre, film and the concert hall. He has recently completed his studies in Music at Oxford University, graduating with a First, after an early musical education in the Channel Islands.
For the theatre, recent credits include the MTN-award nominated musical comedy, A Theory of Justice: The Musical!, and In Her Eyes, a chamber opera. Both shows have been performed across the UK to critical acclaim and are now available for licensing to schools, colleges, and amateur groups. He has also written incidental music for shows including Noel Coward's Semi-Monde at the Oxford Playhouse, and Look Back in Anger at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
For the concert hall, his pieces have been performed by ensembles and soloists including the BBC Singers, the Cavaleri Quartet, the New Music Players, Jonathan Powell, Danae Eleni and Guy Newbury. He won the St Anne's Inaugural Composition Prize for his song cycle google poems. His music for film includes the trailer for the St Anne's Ball 2014.
He is currently working as Composer-in-Residence at Jersey College for Girls. During his residency, he is teaching composition to A-Level and GCSE students, running composition and songwriting workshops for students, staff and parents, and writing new music for school ensembles, including a piece for massed choirs and orchestra.
Toby is also active as a musical director, orchestrator and arranger. Whilst at Oxford University, he musically directed both the largest-ever student production (The Producers at the Oxford Playhouse), and the fastest-selling (A Theory of Justice: The Musical!), for which he also co-wrote the music. He is currently working for renowned West End composer Stuart Brayson (From Here To Eternity) on a number of projects.
Toby studied Composition with Professor Martyn Harry at Oxford University. He has also received support and guidance from composers including Eric Whitacre (Light & Gold, Virtual Choir), Dana P. Rowe (The Witches of Eastwick, Zombie Prom), Stephen Keeling (La Cava), Adam Gorb (RNCM) and Scott Stroman (Guildhall School of Music and Drama).
