Victim Support Jersey was formed in 1989. We have informal links to the other British organisations, however we are an independent, locally funded charity working for the people of Jersey who have been affected by crime. We are not part of the police, the courts or any other government agency.
Each year we help over 300 victims of crime. Support is provided over the phone or at meetings with a volunteer either at our offices or another appropriate location in the community.
We have a team of trained volunteers who work both in the community and the courts.
There are 2 part-time members of staff and an honorary Management Committee. If you would like to be involved please contact us.
We also campaign for greater rights for victims and witnesses and to raise awareness about our work amongst other organisations and the local community. If you would like us to come along and talk to your organisation, please get in touch.
How we work
If you report a crime to the police the officer recording your statement should mention that you will be referred to us – this will happen unless you say you don’t want to be. If you change your mind at any time afterwards, you can still get in touch.
You can contact us directly if you have been affected by crime. Your GP or any other agency is also able to put you in touch with us.
Once we have your contact details, one of our volunteers will give you a call. You can talk to them over the phone or ask to meet up. They will continue to support you, both emotionally and practically, until you don’t need us anymore.
Witness Service
Our Witness Service was set up in 2008. Going to court as a witness or as the victim of crime can be a worrying and stressful experience. The Witness Service helps people through the process before, during and after a court hearing, providing emotional support and practical information about court proceedings.
