The Jersey Kidney Patients Association (JKPA) was incorporated in Jersey in 1988 and are registered with the Royal Court of Jersey under the Law “Loi (1862) sur les teneures en Fidéicommis et l’Incorporation d’Associations†our Charity No is 736J.
We are also registered with, and regulated by, the Jersey Financial Services Commission as a 'None Profit Making Organisation' (NPO) and have the NPO No. 0120.
JKPA was founded to support, both financially and emotionally, kidney patients living in Jersey. In 1988 there were four haemodialysis patients attended by one part time nurse, supported by the services of the Renal Teams from St Mary’s Hospital Portsmouth, who visited the Island when needed.
Currently in Jersey (2011) there are over 45 haemodialysis patients with another 40 patients likely to need dialysis in the very never future, over 40 transplant patients, a continual peritoneal dialysis service and some 350 plus patients with potential end stage renal failure. All of these patients are attended by a consultant Nephrologist and a team of specialist nurses. The service is based in The Jersey Renal Unit, Gwyneth Huelin Wing, of the Jersey General Hospital.
Specialist diagnostic and surgical support is provided by Guy’s Hospital, London.
The JKPA still offers support to all kidney patients in Jersey, but the work it does has grown in proportion to the number of patients it serves. Our current membership now stands at 130 and is still growing.Categories: Charities.
