www.jerseystamps.com/stamps@jerseypost.comAbout
The Philatelic Bureau creates miniature pieces of art in their own right, working closely with specially commissioned illustrators and photographers.
Not only does the Bureau create stamps to service the operational needs of the island, they also have an international reputation for the quality of their stamp issues that are collected the world over.
Jersey Post has issued its own stamps since becoming an independent postal administration operator in 1969. Jersey is an island rich in history and culture and over the years Jersey Post has produced stamps on a wide range of topics including the island's heritage, special anniversaries, traditions, flora and fauna and the island's links to celebrated figures and world events.
The Bureau is constantly looking to produce issues which broaden interest in philately. Recent local subjects with enormous worldwide appeal are the Titanic, The Grand National winner Corbiere, Man of Steel, Formula One World Champion Nigel Mansell and Military Vehicles.
Man of Steel, issued 7 June 2013, was inspired by Jerseyman Henry Cavill's role as Superman in the Warner Bros. blockbuster movie 'Man of Steel'. Each stamp in the issue features a different print technique to echo the Man of Steel's super powers.
These techniques are brought together for the first time in one issue. They include glow in the dark, silver foil, heat sensitive ink, embedded Jersey granite, a moving image 'Lenticular' miniature sheet and a stamp which employs image recognition to launch an app featuring movie trailers, bonus images and a filmed introduction from Cavill himself.
With the worldwide fascination for collectors with everything royal and Jersey's unique relationship to the Crown, it is in this area that Jersey Post has recently developed some of the most beautiful and innovative collections ever produced.
In 2002, to celebrate the Royal Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Jersey Post succeeded in gaining a world-first, bringing 22 carat gold, 24 carat gold and 99.9% silver together in a single stamp design.
Commemorating 60 years since Queen Elizabeth's Accession to the throne, in 2012 Jersey Post issued another world-first, a stamp affixed with a genuine, hand-cut diamond. Presented as a Souvenir Miniature Sheet with only 600 available at £125 each, they sold out in a remarkable six days!
Another 'first' for Jersey was the issue in 2012 of Jersey's Diamond Jubilee £10 hologram stamp 'Equanimity', featuring the first official holographic portrait of The Queen.
It is this constant bond of creativity, technical innovation and creatively packaged special issues that keep Jersey Post at the forefront of the philatelic world and help make Jersey stamps such sought- after and fascinating collections.Categories: Philately - Study Of Stamps & Postal History.
