I am 54 and live with my husband Innes. We are both GPs & have been married for 30 years. We have two grown up sons; Sean (25yrs) is a Vet & Ben (21yrs) is studying hospitality management. We care for my 90 yr old father-in -law Calum, who lives with us.
I grew up in St Mary’s, where my father was the headmaster. I attended JCG then left Jersey to study Medicine at Manchester University. I qualified in 1983 then spent 6 years gaining experience in UK hospitals and General Practice placements working in a variety of settings ensuring I had sufficient experience to work in General Practice. In 1989 I returned to Jersey & set up St Ouen’s Village Surgery. As well as being a GP on Jersey for the last 25yrs I have worked in community child health clinics, family planning clinics and for the Children’s Service.
In the past I was a trustee for Help a Jersey Child, a member of The Jersey Domestic Violence Forum, the GP representative on the Safeguarding Boards and The Early years Child Partnership group.
Over the last two years I have worked as a Director of The Primary Care Body trying to ensure the GP, voluntary & community sector & patient voice were included & considered in future Health Service Developments on Jersey. In July 2014 I started working as a locum GP in Cambridgeshire. After 25yrs of doing face to face consultations doing my best for my patients on Jersey I believe I can now do more for their future health by ensuring we invest wisely in appropriate services, fit for the future.
I am a member of The Royal College of General Practitioner’s Adolescent Health Group, Vice chair of The UK Primary Care Children’s Safeguarding Forum & do representative work on behalf of The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) particularly in areas of Child Health, mental health & Safeguarding. I have been involved in developing the Brook Traffic Light Tool, the new edition of the safeguarding toolkit for GPs & the report from The Academy of Royal Colleges on improving health care professionals recognition & response to childhood sexual exploitation.Categories: Politics.
