The Kennel Club of Jersey (KCJ), or the Jersey Dog Club as it was called until 2000 was formed in March 1888. Located in the British Channel Island 14 miles from the French coast we undertake all the functions of any other world Kennel Club with our own Registration system and Show Calendar. The Club was established for the 'Betterment of all Dogs' and as such is proud to have affiliated to it the other dog clubs and societies of the island looking after Agility, Obedience Handling and Training, as well as running its own Pedigree and Companion Shows throughout the year. The KCJ is also a reciprical with and has a close bond with the Guernsey Kennel Club and the Kennel Club in the UK. We hold three Jersey Championship Shows each year and three Members Shows. In February each year we host the Channel Islands Dog of the Year Competition with dogs gaining entry through the ten shows held in Jersey and Guernsey,as well as Agility & Obedience competitions with qualifications from our Affiliated Clubs. The KCJ is a non-profit making organisation and does not employ any staff, the fifteen strong Committee meets once a month to conduct the Club business. One of the busiest roles on Committee is the Registrar who keeps all the records of the breeding of dogs on the island as well as working with other Kennel Clubs to ensure the accuracy of the records held, this is also done on a voluntary basis. Membership to the Club is open to all although the ownership of a dog and living in Jersey is preferred and each application is looked at on its own merit. Some think that part of the dog world is elitist, we strive to change that view. What matters to us more than pedigree or non-pedigree is the health of the dog and the relationship dogs have with us and how they form part of our lives.
